UK-bound drug smuggler arrested at Malaga Airport
The suspect was trying to carry almost 14 kilos of narcotics from Spain
At Malaga Airport, Spain's Guardia Civil thwarted a massive drug trafficking attempt, leading to the arrest of a Latvian passenger bound for Manchester. Detected during routine baggage screening, the suspect was carrying more than 13 kilos of hashish concealed within his checked luggage.
Officers grew suspicious during standard security checks on April 7, and moved to detain the man and carry out a thorough search of his suitcase. The 49-year-old was subsequently arrested right before he boarded a flight to the UK with the narcotics.
Upon inspecting the suitcase, officials unearthed 1,336 hashish pellets cleverly packed in fourteen vacuum-sealed parcels weighing 13.876 kilos combined.
His arrest was carried out by members of the Fiscal and Border Section of the Malaga Airport of the Malaga Civil Guard Command.
