ARCHIVED - Unseasonable heat continues with highs of 34 degrees: Murcia weather forecast March 27-April 2
We’re in for another scorcher this week, with temperatures among the hottest they’ve ever been in March for the last 30 years

After a weekend in which temperatures rose above 30ºC in some parts of the Region of Murcia, placing them among the hottest areas in the whole of Spain, this week promises to just as hot, if not more so.
Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has warned that we could “be facing a really anomalous situation in terms of temperatures”, with values “very unusual for the end of March,” and more typical of June, they say.
Their meteorological data show that “maximum temperatures above the 95th percentile” are expected, which means that they will be “among the 5% of the warmest temperatures recorded at this time” of year, with respect to the period between 1991 and 2020.

Maximum temperature percentile for Thursday March 30
There have already been droughts in parts of northern Spain, a situation that is only expected to be compounded by this week’s blazing temperatures evaporating what little water is left.
Aemet also points out that in Murcia there will be “Fairly cloudy skies with intervals of high clouds” throughout most of the week. There will be “light winds from the north or northeast” and these will change to a westerly direction come Thursday March 30.
It will be windier in the coastal areas, especially Cartagena, though it will still not be very strong, with maximum windspeeds of around 20kmh.
The hottest day of the week is expected to be Friday 31, when temperatures are forecast to rise even further, up to a whopping 34ºC in Murcia city and 33ºC in Alhama, Mula and Totana.
As we wave goodbye to March and welcome in April, there is no sign of the April showers. In fact, the humidity levels will drop as we enter the weekend, so it will be a dry sort of heat for the weekend, although the maximum is expected to be 30ºC on Saturday April 1, a slight drop from the day before.
The first quarter of this year has been very dry in Spain, especially in the east and south of mainland Spain such as in the Region of Murcia. The accumulated rainfall is less than a quarter of the normal average, and the first large forest fires of the year have already begun, despite the fact that we have only just entered spring and are still a long way from summer.
