Centuries of musical history at the CIME building in Mazarrón
June 20, 2024 marked the opening of the outstanding exhibition “De la Palabra a la Música, Instrumentos Musicales Históricos” (From Word to Music, Historical Musical Instruments) will be held in the CIME Exhibition Hall, located at Avenida de la Constitución, Mazarrón.
The exhibition, curated by Dr. Víctor Javier Martínez López, associate professor at the University of Murcia and Doctor in Art History, is a deep exploration into the science of organology. The exhibition focuses on the interrelationship between the manufacture of musical instruments and the written documentation that addresses their design and performance technique.
Visitors will have the opportunity to admire a selection of original instruments that have been meticulously restored, using techniques and materials faithful to the periods in which they were created. Each piece has been respected in its integrity, guaranteeing an authentic and educational experience.
The documents on display include studies and analysis carried out by craftsmen and performers, coming from the private funds of Víctor Javier Martínez López. This expert has contributed significantly to the field of restoration and conservation of historical instruments, with projects for renowned entities such as National Heritage and the Royal Canarian Academy of Fine Arts San Miguel Arcángel.
The exhibition will remain open to the public from June 20 to September 14, 2024, inviting all music and history lovers to discover the secrets held by these ancient instruments and the documents that reveal their stories.
The exhibition is open Monday to Saturday 10am to 2pm and Thursday and Friday evenings 5.30pm to 8.30pm.
