Until September 29 World War II spies and secrets exhibition in Cartagena
The Second World War arrives at the Civil War Air Raid Shelter Museum in Cartagena
“Misiones Secretas” is the title of an exhibition running throughout the summer of 2024 at the Museo Refugio de la Guerra Civil in Cartagena, seeking to bring to light various aspects of the Second World War to visitors.
It should be remembered that Spain, where the Civil War ended in 1939, did not participate in the global conflict that followed, despite the apparent friendship between the two dictators Franco and Hitler, and so to some extent the war is far less known in this country than in the rest of Europe.
This exhibition is brought to Cartagena by the Imperial Service association of private collectors and brings together over 300 items from resistance movements, spying operations, intelligence and code-breaking units and “special operations”. The detail of the military uniforms is impeccable and other objects include land and nautical maps, documentation, listening systems and even original clothing.
Various related guided tours are offered on the Puerto de Culturas website:
- A basic tour priced at 4 euros
- A route including the Civil War museum and the Military History Museum as well as a boat trip in the harbour, priced at 15 euros
- A Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson tour for children, price 12 euros
- An Enigma operation escape room priced at 8 euros
