VIDEO: 2.5 million euros worth of wine spilled on floor after break-in by saboteur
From their actions, it seems the perpetrator had intimate knowledge of the Spanish winery
A winery in Spain has suffered estimated losses of more than 2.5 million euros after someone broke in and deliberately sabotaged several vats of wine, spilling their contents all over the floor.
The incident took place at the Cepa 21 winery in Castrillo de Duero (Valladolid) this Sunday February 18 at around 3.30am.
Video footage from security cameras shows how the intruder, wearing a hoodie, moves from tank to tank, opening them and causing their contents to spill on to the floor – around 60,000 litres in total.
Sources from the winery claim that the wine which was spilled were two of their most expensive varieties, Horcajo and Malabrigo. The saboteur opened five tanks, only three of which were filled with wine, before escaping.

From the footage, it is clear that the saboteur was familiar with the layout of the winery as even though it was dark they knew exactly how to open the wine tanks quickly and easily, even with their complicated security latches.
Police are currently investigating the case.
Last year, a wine vat full of inexpensive Don Simón wine accidently exploded in the Spanish wine-producing town of Jumilla, spilling red wine all over the streets.
