VIDEO: Drink-driving foreigner plunges car into Costa Blanca hotel pool
The driver took out several sun loungers before landing head-first in the kiddie pool in Torrevieja
A spectacular accident that could have ended in an unthinkable tragedy was filmed in Torrevieja last week when a motorist drove head-first into the children’s swimming pool of the Hotel Torrejoven. Thankfully, the incident occurred at around 8pm on Friday night, September 6, when the outside terrace was empty of guests.
Eyewitnesses report that the vehicle was seen speeding down Calle Arrecife in Rocío del Mar neighbourhood before the driver ploughed through the exterior wall of the hotel. The 19-year-old Lithuanian man ended up with his vehicle half submerged in the kiddie pool, but not before taking out dozens of sun loungers.
An ambulance arrived at the popular three-star family hotel, but the young driver was uninjured and did not need medical assistance. Immediately afterwards, the Local Police officers of Torrevieja subjected him to a breathalyzer test, which confirmed an alcohol level of 1.17 mg/l in exhaled air.
This means that he was four times over the legal limit.
The vehicle remained in the pool until Sunday when it was eventually removed. Unfortunately, hotel guests had no access to the swimming pool all weekend, but the spectacle attracted plenty of attention from curious passersby.
