VIDEO: Dutch fugitive arrested in Ibiza for violent jewellery theft
The criminal had been hiding out in Spain since November last year
National Police in Ibiza have arrested a fugitive wanted by the Dutch authorities for a high-profile burglary with violence and intimidation. The criminal, whose name has not been released, was apprehended on Tuesday February 6 by officers from the Fugitive Location branch.
According to police reports, the robbery occurred on February 25, 2005, at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, where the suspect and several accomplices stole valuable jewellery and diamonds worth 72 million US dollars. The perpetrators reportedly used firearms and a great deal of violence against their victims during the heist.
The investigation began in November 2023, when the Dutch authorities informed their Spanish counterparts that a dangerous fugitive might be hiding out on the island of Ibiza. Following this tip-off, agents from the Fugitive Location Section travelled to the island to locate the suspect.
After conducting an extensive search, the agents finally tracked down the suspect to a villa on the island. On Tuesday afternoon, they apprehended him when he left his home as the passenger in a car.

During the arrest, the officers noted that the man had gone to great lengths to alter his appearance compared to the photos they had received from the Netherlands, and looked much younger and thinner. They suspected he may even have undergone plastic surgery to alter his appearance.
The arrested individual was subsequently handed over to the Central Investigative Court for further questioning and to eventually stand trial.
