Watch! Carnival spirit lights up Cádiz seafront for summer celebration
Music, satire and colour took over the Paseo Marítimo for the second Paseo de Carnaval
Cádiz’s famous Carnival stepped out of its usual February slot and into the summer sunshine on Saturday August 9, when the city’s Paseo Marítimo (promenade) played host to the second Paseo de Carnaval.
The evening was timed to coincide with the 71st Carranza Trophy football event, giving locals and visitors a double reason to celebrate. From 9pm, three stages along the seafront, at Brasil, García Agulló and Nereidas streets – came alive with the unmistakable sounds and sights of Cádiz Carnival.
Performers included adult and youth groups from the 2025 Official Competition for Cádiz Carnival Groups (COAC), as well as last year’s prize-winning children’s and youth acts. The result was a lively mix of witty chirigotas, stirring comparsas and colourful costumes that kept the crowds smiling well into the night.
The event, organised by the Festivals and Carnival Department of Cádiz City Council, was first held in 2024 as a way to bring the spirit of Carnival into the summer months. This year’s edition not only repeated the formula but added the extra buzz of football fever.
The streets were busy with locals and holidaymakers alike, all sharing in the fun with a drink or a late-night ice cream in hand. For those strolling along the promenade, the evening felt like a giant open-air street party. The air was filled with music, jokes and laughter, with audiences free to wander between the three stages and catch a little bit of everything.
By the end of the night, the Paseo Marítimo had been well and truly claimed by the city’s most beloved tradition, proving that whether it’s winter or summer, Cádiz knows how to throw a party.
