ARCHIVED - WATCH: Marbella motorway comes to a standstill as 50 euro notes litter the road
Thousands of euros worth of notes spilled from a briefcase on the Malaga motorway

There’s never a good time to be stuck in a traffic jam, but it turned out to be a pretty profitable experience for several motorists in Marbella on Monday January 30. Drivers were astonished to see a briefcase smash open on the A-7 motorway and spill out wads of 50 euro notes.
One of the drivers called the 112 Andalucia Emergency Services at 11.30am to report that dozens of cars, and even a bus, had stopped in the middle of the motorway, and people were scrambling along the road to pocket the thousands of euros that were fluttering around.

The spectacle occurred at kilometre 181 of Malaga’s A-7, right beside the La Cañada commercial centre, and resulted in traffic coming to a standstill. Officers from the Guardia Civil, the National Police and road maintenance personnel were all called to the scene to move the drivers along.
One lucky bus passenger claims to have nabbed more than 500 euros in 50s, but it is not yet clear if the notes are real or clever forgeries.
