WATCH: Massive traffic jam and two injured as helicopter crashes into M-40 Madrid
A strong gust of wind may have caused the helicopter to fall onto one of the busiest roads in the Spanish capital
Early this morning, Friday December 1, a helicopter crashed onto the M-40 ring road in Madrid.
The two occupants of the small helicopter were seriously injured. The aircraft came crashing down onto kilometre 5.5 of the M-40 motorway, which circles the city of Madrid.
Initial reports suggest that a strong gust of wind may have caused the vehicle to lose control and destabilise, sending it crashing to earth onto one of the main roads of the Spanish capital.
One lane of the M-40 in each direction was cut off in order to aid the work of the emergency services, and although traffic was not halted at any time, there were inevitable heavy traffic jams leading back more than 2 kilometres.

The crash caused a slight head injury to one of the occupants and a possible fractured femur to the other, while a driver on the road suffered very minor cuts from glass. One of the occupants of the helicopter got out on his own, while the other had to be rescued by the fire brigade. Both were transferred to hospital.
