ARCHIVED - WATCH: Brave off-duty cop drags man to safety from Madrid train tracks
With no time to spare, the Spanish officer squeezed himself and the passenger into a tiny space between the platform and train
In what can only be described as a miracle rescue, incredible footage has emerged of an off-duty police officer dragging a fallen passenger from almost certain death off the train tracks at the Embajadores station in Madrid. The event actually took place on July 29 as a Cercanías train sped towards the platform, but details have only been released today.
The quick-thinking cop, who was waiting for a train himself, saw the man fall onto the tracks and, dropping his backpack, lunged towards the would-be victim. A video recorded by CCTV cameras shows the moment the officer realised there wasn’t enough time to pull the man completely out of the path of the oncoming train; instead, he managed to squeeze them both into the tiny space between the platform and the track until the danger had passed.

The officer waited with the man until a National Police patrol arrived, and the passenger was arrested for a crime of public disorder after being taken to hospital and treated for a head injury caused by the fall.
As a result of the incident, the usual train service was delayed for around half an hour.
