Weather warnings activated in the Region of Murcia for Thursday
Four beaches in Murcia are also flying yellow flags this Wednesday August 21
The Region of Murcia has been enjoying a few days of slightly cooler temperatures but things are about to take a turn for the worse, as the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has updated its forecasts and activated yellow alerts for thunderstorms and rain in the Vega del Segura, the Altiplano and the Northwest.
Specifically, the municipalities of Murcia, Caravaca de La Cruz, Cieza and Yecla have been issued warnings between the hours of 12 noon and midnight, when there’s a 40-70% chance of showers. Despite this, the mercury could actually creep up, especially inland, and the average day-time temperatures tomorrow will range between 32ºC and 37ºC.
Rain will continue to make an appearance over the weekend in several parts of the Region, and on Sunday in particular. Aemet is currently forecasting cloudy intervals along with a 60% chance of downpours in Murcia, while the probability of rain rises to 70% in Lorca.
Meanwhile yellow flags, an indication that caution is needed in the water, have been raised on four Region of Murcia beaches on Wednesday August 21.
A yellow flag doesn’t prevent anyone from swimming, unlike the red, but it does recommend that people take special care when going for a dip.
Among the coastal areas affected are the beaches of Galúa, Las Sirenas and Entremares in Cartagena, and the Pedrucho Norte beach in San Javier.
The rest of the beaches in the Region all have green flags.
In light of this warning, the 112 Emergency Service recommends taking extreme precautions with children and the elderly, and has asked bathers to heed the advice of lifeguards at all times.
