ARCHIVED - Wind and cold put eleven communities on alert: Spain weather February 7-11
Several regions in Spain will experience decidedly spring-like weather this week
The second week of February is set to bring a mixture of weather conditions to Spain, with several communities on alert for low temperatures and rough coastal phenomena, while a new anticyclone will mean tempertaures rise in many areas.
On Monday February 7, the wind is predicted to reach up to 80 kilometres per hour in the northeast of Spain with temperatures expected to dip as low as -6ºC. A maritime storm on the Cantabrian coast and the west of the Canary Islands has put eleven communities under a yellow warning.
As reported by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), Aragon, Catalonia and the Valencian Community will experience strong winds, with Tarragona and inland Castellón also on alert.
On the other hand, meteorologists have predicted a predominantly dry and sunny first half of the weak in much of the rest of the country, with temperatures slightly higher than normal. However, from Thursday February 10, the cloudiness will begin to increase, and Friday widespread rain is likely in the northern part of the country.

The average value of accumulated rainfall in the whole of Spain between October and February has only reached a total of 192 litres per square metre, a far cry from the average 299 litres that would normally be expected. With precipitation in the coming days isolated to just parts of Spain, the drought situation is becoming extremely precarious; overall, most regions in Spain are below their normal values with Andalucía and the islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura bearing the brunt, at less than 25% of their average rainfall.
