Work gets underway to create pedestrian path to popular La Manga beach
The work to improve access between the La Manga road and the Playa del Barco Perdido will be finished before the end of June
Construction work has just started to create a pedestrian access way to the Las Sirenas beach, better known as the Playa del Barco Perdido beach, in La Manga del Mar Menor. The Councillor for Infrastructure at Cartagena City Council, Diego Ortega, supervised the start of the work this Wednesday May 29. The work is expected to last for approximately three weeks, and so should be finished around mid-June.The idea is to facilitate the passage of beachgoers from the Gran Vía de La Manga to the Mediterranean Sea side of La Manga, at around kilometre 0.5.The start of the work had to be delayed due to the transfer of the land to the City Council, as it was privately owned by the communities of owners of the Sirenas III and Babilonia urbanisations. They have now ceded the land to the Council, and work has begun. As well as a path between the road and the beach, a ramp will also be built that should improve access to the lifeguard post on the Barco Perdido beach.Image: Ayuntamiento de Cartagena
