ARCHIVED - Worldwide microchip crisis set to end in 2023
Demand for high-resolution TVs in Spain is already on the rise
The global microchip and semiconductor crisis, which has affected the production and sale of everything from computers to cars, will be over by 2023 according to Vestel, a high-definition (UHD) manufacturer that accounts for 18% of all televisions sold in Europe. UHD Spain has also predicted that the end of the supply crisis will coincide with a huge upsurge in the purchase of 8K TVs, devices that offer superior resolution.
According to the manufacturers, more than 7 million 4K and 8K TVs have already been sold in Spain with the trend set to continue into 2022.
Demand for these vital microchips skyrocketed during the coronavirus pandemic, with more and more people buying electronic equipment. Compounded with the work stoppages of many companies such as Intel and Qualcomm, manufacturers were forced to depend mostly on Asian and Taiwanese companies for their supply of these items.
In addition to the shortage of latest generation game consoles such as the PS5 and Xbox Series X and S, Apple had to severely reduce the production of its iPad in order to allocate more chips to the iPhone 13 during the pandemic.
