Young Briton scalped in horror Ibiza crash
The 30-year-old lorry driver is lucky to be alive after colliding with another car while visiting Spain on holiday
A young British man has had a close shave with death after a hire car in which he was travelling as a passenger collided with another vehicle in Ibiza on September 8. However, the 30-year-old lorry driver suffered life-altering injuries and his scalp was completely ripped from his skull in the horrifying collision.
The rented Audi which professional HGV driver Vincent Brodie was travelling in reportedly flipped three times, leaving him with a laceration to his right arm, a life-threatening tear to an artery in his thigh and the scalp wound. He underwent three operations in a Spanish hospital before being well enough to fly back to the UK.
Incredibly, no other passengers were injured in the accident.
Vincent’s mum flew to Spain on learning about the accident and admitted that she feared the worst for her son: “I can’t remember getting there. I was in total panic mode. I was just thinking I could get there and he was going to be dead. I just kept thinking he couldn’t be alive with the trauma he’d had.”
But the young man did recover, although he will require extensive plastic surgery, and his mum explained that Europcar is under investigation as a result of the frightening incident.
“I just don’t understand why the airbags didn’t deploy. I don’t have a clue. Not one airbag went off,” she claimed.
A spokesperson for the car rental company said: “Europcar is cooperating fully with the local authorities and as this is an ongoing investigation cannot provide further information at this stage. It is in touch with the customer regarding the matter.”
