ARCHIVED - Spectacular lorry fire on the A-7 near Alicante-Elche Airport
The truck was transporting packaging materials when it burst into flames on the busy motorway in Alicante province
A lorry and its contents were completely destroyed in a spectacular blaze on the A-7 motorway just 1km from Alicante-Elche Airport.
The flames originated in the vehicle's engine before spreading rapidly throughout the 3.5 tonne lorry and obliterating packaging materials loaded in the back.

The fire started as the vehicle was leaving the A-7 at the airport exit at around 12.30pm on Tuesday March 29, and six firefighters from Elche Fire Station spent two hours extinguishing the fire. As the picture and video shows, all that was left was the skeleton of the lorry. Fortunately, nobody was hurt.
As to be expected at that time of day, there was heavy traffic flow on the motorway and Alicante Provincial Consortium worked with the Guardia Civil to ensure the safe movement of vehicles until the area was cleared and normal flow was restored.
