What was the connection between Terry Venables and Spain?
England and Barca manager Terry Venables passed away recently, but do you know how else he is linked to Spain?
Former England manager Terry Venables, who passed away this Saturday November 25, was intimately linked to Spain, not only through his football career but also in his personal life.
After having played for Chelsea, QPR and Tottenham, he later went on to manage Barcelona from 1984 to 1987, where he earned the nickname ‘El Tel’, before going on to be manager of the England squad between 1994 and 1996.
Not only that, but Venables was so taken with life in Spain that he later bought and ran a hotel, the Hotel La Escondida, in Penàguila in Alicante with his wife Yvette.
The hotel, whose name translates ‘The Hidden One’, was built in 1891 and turned into a luxury hotel in 2014. It even has a lawn that was once a football pitch.
Terry and Yvette sold La Escondida in 2019 and moved back to the UK.
After his death this Saturday November 25 at the age of 80, he is survived by Yvette and his two daughters, Nancy and Tracey.
