ARCHIVED - First container ship after Suez Canal incident reaches Valencia port
The container ship with 2,300 containers on board for the region finally reached the Port of Valencia on April 6 after being stuck in a traffic jam caused by the ‘Ever Given’
The first ship arriving from the Suez Canal "traffic jam" reached the Port of Valencia this Tuesday (April 6) after the ‘Ever Given’ container ship became stuck in the canal on March 23 and caused a backlog which affected more than 360 ships and lasted for nearly a week.
The MSC Le Havre, which is more than 300 metres long, arrived in the region at around 9 am on Tuesday in order to load and unload around 2,300 containers of consumer goods from, or bound for, the Far East
Another two container ships, the MSC Conty Everest and the CMA CGM Centaurus, are scheduled to arrive in the Port on Wednesday (April 7), followed by a further 10 to 12 ships over the next few days, all of which were involved in the 6-day-long traffic jam in the Suez Canal.
Despite these extra arrivals, the Port Authorities in Valencia (APV) have stated that the port will be operating as normal and can accommodate all the belated arrivals from the Suez Canal without issue.
The APV also added that the actions of shipping companies and agents are allowing the affected ships to make up for lost time as they make their stop overs in Mediterranean ports, facilitating the flow of exported goods to the Asian market as well as the arrival of inbound products.
