1 in 5 foreign digital nomads chooses the Valencian Community
Europeans in their 30s and 40s are flocking to Spain’s east coast for sunshine, stability and a better work-life balance

The Valencian Community, home to the holiday hotspot of Alicante, is fast becoming one of Europe’s top landing spots for international digital nomads. In 2023, more than 1,000 remote workers from abroad chose the region as their new home, making up one in five of all digital nomad visas granted across Spain.
Most of these new arrivals are Europeans aged 30 to 45, working in fields like tech, marketing or consulting. They’re looking for more than just good Wi-Fi and beach views: they want long-term quality of life, investment potential and family-friendly living.
While Catalonia leads the pack with more than 40% of digital nomad permits, Valencia is now second, ahead of Madrid (18.4%) and Andalucía (10%). Thanks to its blend of sunshine, culture, safety and affordability, Valencia regularly ranks near the top of global lists for remote workers — particularly women.
In fact, it’s considered the second safest city in Europe for female digital nomads, according to travel platform Holidu.es.
Still, the numbers reveal a gender gap: only 29% of digital nomads granted visas in the Valencian Community were women. That figure jumps to 60% when counting women who came as partners, dependents or family members of the primary teleworkers, a sign that many nomads are relocating as families, not solo freelancers.

Among the 4,712 total permits granted across Spain in 2023, the majority were issued to Europeans, followed by a smaller number from Latin America and North America. Within the Valencian Community, 826 of the 1,051 nomads were European. Locally, cities like Valencia continue to rise in popularity, boosted by a wave of co-working spaces, co-living options and boutique hotels aimed at remote workers.
"In May alone, Hotel Nommadas hosted primarily professionals from France, Italy and various cities in Spain," explained Luis Fernández, CEO of Nommadas, a new hotel concept catering specifically to digital nomads.
