ARCHIVED - 20,000 undelivered letters discovered at previous home of former Alicante postman
The two-decades-old mail was found at an old property in the Alicante town of Biar by the new owner
The Guardia Civil in Villena has launched an investigation into the bizarre discovery of around 20,000 undelivered letters at an old property in Bias, Alicante.
The house was previously owned by a former postman who left the state postal service Correos in 2012, and when the new owner bought the property in Calle Mayor recently, he was astonished to find several plastic bags scattered in different rooms containing unsent mail dating from between 2000 and 2012.
According to police sources, all of the post was destined for addresses in Alicante city, and have since been collected by Correos officials.
Inquiries into why the letters were never delivered are ongoing.
