25-year-old swimmer dies after hitting rocks at a beach in Mazarrón
Two British holidaymakers raised the alarm at around 4:00pm after witnessing the incident and calling Spain's emergency number 112

The young man was found unconscious and was pulled from the water at Percheles beach, in Cañada de Gallego area of Mazarrón, on Wednesday afternoon June 10. At around 4:00pm, two young British men raised the alarm via 112 after a friend had struck rocks and was unresponsive in the sea.
Emergency services, including the Guardia Civil, Mazarrón Local Police, Civil Protection, the regional fire and rescue service, and an ambulance from the 061 emergency health service, were all called to the scene.
According to the Guardia Civil, several people had already managed to get the swimmer out of the water by the time emergency teams arrived. CPR was immediately started following instructions from a 061 nurse and continued by both the Guardia Civil and local police, who are equipped with resuscitation equipment, until the 061 mobile emergency unit arrived.
Despite these efforts, the 061 doctor confirmed the man, aged 25, had died. Civil Protection in Mazarrón set up a tent at the scene while waiting for the forensic doctor and judicial authorities to arrive.
Incidents like this show how quickly conditions at sea can change, even for experienced swimmers. Authorities regularly advise people to take extra care around rocky areas, pay attention to local warnings, and avoid entering the water alone where possible.
