ARCHIVED - 75-year-old man drowns on Cartagena beach
The pensioner died on Playa de los Nietos on Sunday July 17
A 75-year-old man died this Sunday after drowning on the Playa de los Nietos beach, in the municipality of Cartagena. The incident took place at around 1.30pm, when the Emergency Coordination Centre 112 of the Region of Murcia received a distress call to pull a man out of the water who was unconscious and unresponsive.
Civil Protection personnel from Cartagena were immediately sent to the scene and tried to revive the man with CPR for ten minutes while waiting for the ambulance to arrive, but paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Medical staff also attended to the deceased’s wife, 70, who was suffering from an anxiety attack.
