ARCHIVED - 78-year-old man drowns on beach in Cartagena
The elderly gentleman was pulled unconscious from the sea at Punta Brava beach

Another tragedy befell the Region of Murcia coast at the weekend as the emergency services were unable to save the life of a 78-year-old man who was pulled unconscious from the water at the Punta Brava beach in Cartagena.
The Emergency Coordination Centre was notified of the drowning at 6.18pm on Sunday August 14, and Guardia Civil officers along with two health units rushed to the beach.
Lifeguards from the Plan Copla beach surveillance attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation before doctors continued the first aid but sadly they were unable to save the man and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Just last week, a 70-year-old man lost his life at Bahia beach in Puerto de Mazarrón despite the immediate intervention of an off-duty nurse and a few days ago, an Irish tourist drowned in a hotel pool in Tarragona.
