Aguilas art-based blood drive draws in over 150 donors
The town of Águilas hoped to attract more blood donors with the promise of a cinema ticket and a free work of art

This Tuesday, April 16, the Infanta Doña Elena Auditorium in Águilas became the site of a mass blood donation with a difference. This was the third annual edition of Águilas’s campaign ‘Donar sangre por amor al arte’ (‘Donate blood for the love of art’).
Set up by the Regional Haemodonation Centre and the ‘Manuel Coronado’ Association of Friends of Culture, this donation campaign exceeded all expectations, with 179 people giving blood on the day. Of those, 44 were first-time blood donors and two people also chose to donate bone marrow. It was a notable increase on participation in previous years.
The activity was carried out as a result of the collaboration between the Asociación Amigos de la Cultura Manuel Coronado and the Ayuntamiento de Águilas and thanks to, the association from Águilas gave
Each person who gave blood was handed a ticket to the El Hornillo multiplex cinema and given a reproduction of a work of art made expressly for this purpose. The print, from Murcia artists Muher, shows the palm grove at the entrance to the Águilas Sur Health Centre.
