Stalled Lorca housing development set for completion after a decade
The 300-home residential development will finally be built in the Lorca district of Purias

The Jardines de la Almenara residential complex in the Lorca district of Purias, where the construction of 300 single-family homes is planned, will finally be completed ten years after development ground to a halt when the real estate bubble burst.
Lorca City Council gave the project the green light on Tuesday July 1 after a new development company agreed to invest more than €3.3 million to finish the complex, where to date only 50 houses have been finished. The vast majority remain uninhabited because essential services have yet to be set up.

As well as issuing building permits for the remaining 250 homes, the council has also authorised other works such as paving the roads, installing street lights and commissioning public bins.

This development was planned during the construction boom on a 342,000-square-metre plot, primarily targeting British and Central European residents.
