ARCHIVED - Aguilas joins other Murcia towns in laying down ground rules for taking in refugee children from Ukraine
Only families already registered in the Murcia Foster Care Programme can host Ukrainian children
Since the invasion of Ukraine began, many people have been interested in helping by taking in refugee children. In response to requests for information from the public, Águilas Town Council has joined a call from the mayors of other municipalities in the Region of Murcia to remind people that only families who already had prior authorisation to take in minors will be able to do so.
This means that it is only those who were registered in the Murcia Foster Care Programme prior to the start of the Ukraine-Russia conflict are allowed to host children in need fleeing the warzone. Those families already registered in the Programme and who would like more information can contact the Region of Murcia’s central government via their new email address specially created for this purpose: protecciondemenores.ucrania@carm.es
For financial donations, these should be made through the accounts of official entities:
- Cáritas (ES18 2100 2166 4202 0034 8543)
- Cepaim Foundation (regiondemurcia@cepaim.org)
- Accem (murcia@accem.es)
- Red Cross (murcia@cruzroja.es)
- Columbares Association (asociacion@columbares.org)
- Fisat (pes.cartagena@fisat.es)
- Murcia acoge (murcia.refugio@redacoge.org)
Since Wednesday, Águilas Town Hall has been collecting donations of medicines, clothes and non-perishable foodstuffs to send to the places where it is most needed, in collaboration with the Ukrainian Association of the Region of Murcia.
The collection ends today, but has exceeded all expectations with an overwhelming response from Águilas residents who have shown their immense generosity.
