Alicante Airport opens new express parking spots at arrivals
The car park at Alicante-Elche Airport offers a 10-minute free stop to pick up passengers
A new express car park has been opened outside the arrivals terminal at the Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport. Located on the ground floor just outside the main building, the car park will allow drivers to stop for free for 10 minutes to wait for incoming passengers.
The car park has 23 spaces, 2 of which are reserved for people with reduced mobility (PRM).
For longer waits, motorists will still have to pay to use the existing parking garage.
To access the express arrivals areas, drivers will pass through one of the two entrance barriers, where they will receive a ticket. When leaving, they’ll go through two different exit gates and scan the QR code on the ticket, without having to get out of their vehicle.
However, if the driver has spent more than 10 minutes in the express area, he will have to pay the amount due by credit card at the exit barrier. Failing this, there are several ATMs locate inside the terminal and one in the car park itself.
Other parking options at Alicante Airport
The airport operates a similar express parking system at departures, where drivers are allowed to pull in briefly to drop off passengers going in to catch a flight. Between this car park and the new express arrivals spots, there are now 106 spaces in all, nine of which are specifically for people with reduced mobility.
There is also a large long-stay parking lot on site which will soon undergo a major renovation to the tune of 14 million euros. Some of the scheduled works include strengthening the existing pillars and creating more emergency exits.New electric charging points and pergolas will also be added and, further down the line, solar panels will be installed.
The extensive project will involve demolishing the existing canopies, garden area and old ‘rent a car’ offices, as well as dismantling three of the elevators and the pedestrian ramp.
The work will be completed by July 2025.
