Up to 30mm of rain fell within the space of half an hour in rural parts of the municipality in the Alto Vinalopó comarca, Alicante province
The Alicante town of Villena experienced sudden downpours on Thursday afternoon, September 16, with flash flooding causing major problems on the roads.
A number of motorists found themselves stranded in up to 45cm of water in rural areas, with Alicante firefighters having to rescue drivers stuck in their vehicles on the CV-81.

According to MeteoVinalopó, the intense downpour lasted about 30 minutes and Avenida Juan Carlos I of Sax was also completely impassable due to an accumulation of water.
