ARCHIVED - 6 points on licence for using a phone while driving: new road laws in Spain today
Yet more new changes to Spanish traffic regulations are due to be passed today, including more points for not wearing a seatbelt
Traffic laws in Spain are due to undergo yet another change from this Thursday September 30, with more points being added to driving licences for infractions like using a mobile phone while driving and not wearing a seatbelt.
The new changes come after a spate of recent amendments, including making cameras compulsory for rear view mirrors in new cars, an extra road sign being introduced for Low Emission Zones in cities, and additional toll roads across Spain.
Now, the Spanish government is voting on modifications to road laws for mobile phone use while driving and wearing seatbelts, plus a crackdown to regulate the use of electric scooters.
What are the new changes to driving laws in Spain?
- Drivers talking on the phone, texting or even just holding a mobile phone in their hand while driving in Spain will now be penalised with six points on their driving licence.
- If you get caught by the Spanish police not wearing your seatbelt, you can get an extra four points on your licence.
- Helmets will be compulsory when riding an electric scooter. This is in addition to recent calls to make insurance compulsory for electric kick scooters.
These new rules are expected to be passed in the House today.
