ARCHIVED - British man, 26, arrested for rape in Mallorca
The alleged attack took place in a hotel room in the popular resort of Santa Ponsa
A 26-year-old Briton was arrested on Friday evening, March 3, for allegedly raping one female holidaymaker and attempting to assault her friend in the holiday hotspot of Magaluf.
According to local reports, one of the women called the police at around 7pm from her hotel in the popular resort of Santa Ponsa. She claimed that the suspect had raped her friend before then trying to force her into his hotel room. She managed to escape and sounded the alarm.
Officers quickly arrived on the scene to apprehend the Briton, who is believed to have resisted arrest and headbutted one of the Spanish officers.
Police observed that there was some blood on the hotel room sheets and the alleged victim was transferred to the Son Espases hospital for treatment.
The nationality of the women has not been released and it is unclear whether the young British suspect has yet appeared before a judge.
On the same day, a court in Palma ordered prison without bail for two men accused of raping and robbing a British holidaymaker on Calle Pere Vaquer Ramis in Magaluf.
The 25-year-old tourist was set upon by the suspects shortly after 1am, who stole her 2,000 watch and jewellery before raping her.
The men, both Columbian and aged 19 and 24, were remanded in custody until they were seen in court late on Sunday March 5.
Mallorca is a favourite destination for British tourists but horror stories of violence and assault are becoming all too common. Last year, a tourist from the UK reported that she had been raped by another Briton in the Punta Ballena area of Magaluf.
The woman went to Spanish police after waking up in the man’s hotel room and finding him “on top of her.”
