ARCHIVED - Brit arrested on suspicion of raping fellow holidaymaker in Magaluf
The British man was released pending an investigation by authorities in Mallorca
A young British holidaymaker has been arrested in the Spanish party resort of Magaluf after another UK tourist reported to local police that he had raped her.
According to reports, the two Brits, both in their 20s, met on a night out in Punta Ballena in Mallorca on Friday July 15 before returning to the young man’s hotel room. Once she had regained consciousness the alleged victim went to the nearest police station and told officials that she passed out and awoke some time later to find the accused “on top of her”.
Following a clear description of the suspect and the hotel where the suspected rape occurred, detectives arrested the British man on Saturday July 16. He was held in police custody over the weekend and appeared before a judge on Monday, who ordered his release pending a full investigation.
Prosecutors in the case didn’t object since the suspect admitted to having sex with the young holidaymaker, but insisted that it was consensual.
This allegation comes just three weeks after former professional boxer and Briton Steven Kinnersley was arrested at a Puerto Alcudia hotel in Mallorca for violently assaulting his partner. According to official reports, the 43-year-old became jealous when he heard his younger girlfriend chatting on the phone and repeatedly beat her.
Less than two weeks ago, a 50-year-old British tourist was apprehended in the resort of Santa Ponsa, just 15 minutes from Magaluf, for reportedly sexually assaulting his partner in their hotel room.
The 48-year-old victim, who later described her partner as a “very violent” man, called reception for help after he allegedly punched her in the face and tried to smother her with a pillow.
