ARCHIVED - Lidl supermarkets across Spain withdraw goat cheese due to listeria risk
Full refunds offered on a specific batch of Jermi goat cheese
The Lidl supermarket chain has announced that it has withdrawn from the shelves a batch of round packages of goat cheese from the Netherlands after it was found to contain the bacterium listeria monocytogenes, while at the same time stressing that no case of customers becoming ill has been reported in connection with the alarm.
The batch of 100-gram “Jermi” cheese packages concerned is Number 412, with a use-by date of 6th November 2020, and was distributed to supermarkets in the regions of Andalucía, Catalunya, the Basque Country, Galicia, Madrid, Murcia and the Comunidad Valenciana, according to the AESAN Spanish Food and Nutritional Safety Agency. The cheese was produced in the Netherlands by the company Jermi before being distributed from Germany, and both Lidl and AESAN are recommending that anyone who has purchased products belonging to the specific batch should return it immediately to the establishment where it was sold, where they will be fully refunded.
Lidl have explained that the presence of the bacterium, which can cause severe illness, was detected during tests carried out by their supplier Brasserie Licorne SAS, and that no other Jermi product has been found to be affected. At the same time, the chain offers apologies for any inconvenience caused.
