ARCHIVED - Murcian airline considers offering flight discounts for hotel customers
Hotels have suggested offering 30 euros towards flights to Corvera airport
Spanish airline Volotea is reportedly studying a proposal made by coastal hotels to offer a 30 euro discount on plane tickets so that flights can be maintained into and out of Corvera airport during the low season. Murcia’s international airport has struggled to regain its pre-pandemic passenger numbers and the airline, developed by local businessman Carlos Muñoz, is interested in looking at all “formulas that reduce seasonality” in the Region.
The novel idea to add a cash incentive for hotel guests was put forward by Murcia’s tourism group, Hostetur, and has the backing of the Ministry of Tourism, who said that “any initiative that is proposed to promote tourism is welcome”.
For its part, Volotea is “interested in continuing to look for additional opportunities from Murcia and in exploring formulas that allow seasonality to be reduced.” In general terms, there is far less traffic through Corvera airport in the winter months and the airline is “happy to evaluate” all proposals that would boost tourism in the Region.
Volotea currently runs more than 350 direct routes and operates in 14 countries; this year, it will offer 40,000 seats on flights to Asturias, Santander and Menorca from Corvera.
