UK hotel chain Travelodge to open in Murcia
The budget British hotel chain has purchased six new properties in Spain
UK hotel brand Travelodge has just announced the purchase of the Campanile hotel in Murcia, along with five other properties across Spain totalling 773 tourist rooms.
Located on Juan Carlos I Avenue, next to the El Puntal tram stop, the two-star Murcia establishment currently has 117 rooms, each measuring 19 square metres. The hotel also boasts two large conference rooms, both equipped with LCD screens and projectors, aimed at business meetings and private corporate groups.
Until now, the Campanile was in the hands of the Louvre Hotels group, which has sold this, along with hotels in Alicante, Barcelona, Madrid and Málaga to Travelodge, which operates approximately 600 hotels around the world.
The British brand opened its first Spanish hotel in Madrid in 2004, followed by other establishments in Barcelona, Madrid and last year in Coslada, and has set itself the goal of doubling its presence in Spain in the near future.
Jo Boydell, CEO of Travelodge, said, “Spain is an important market for us, with an established presence of six hotels and an experienced local management team. We recognise there are significant ongoing opportunities for our business, with the potential to offer good value and quality accommodation in many more locations across the country. Last year we identified the top 20 key markets to open a new hotel in Spain, where there is currently a shortage of good quality, low cost, branded accommodation to meet the needs of business and leisure guests.”
Founded in 1985, Travelodge has a portfolio of almost 600 hotels with more than 46,000 rooms in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Spain. These budget hotels welcome more than 22 million guests a year.
