ARCHIVED - Only 6 per cent of adults in Spain are unvaccinated
The Omicron variant has created a surge in vaccinations throughout Spain
As Spain moves forward with the booster Covid jab for everyone over the age of 18 and the campaign for vaccinating younger children continues to gather steam, just 6.7% of the adult population – 3.2 million people – have yet to receive their first coronavirus jab. In addition, the Ministry of Health has revealed that there are around 828,000 citizens who have only received the first dose.
Of the total population in Spain, 80.5% have now been double jabbed.
Official sources have confirmed that the onset of the Omicron variant converted hundreds of thousands of people who were undecided about the vaccine; since December 15, the number of unvaccinated adults dropped from 3.5 million to 3.2 million people.
In a little over a month, 4.5 million coronavirus vaccine doses have been administered and 1.3 million of these have been to children aged between 5 and 11. By now, 40% of all youngsters have received their first jab and since the second dose is due eight weeks after the first, the Ministry predicts that by mid-February, Spain’s first kiddies will be fully inoculated.
To date, 90% of those over the age of 70 have received their booster while 84% of people in the 60s have had the third dose. This figure drops to just over 53% for citizens in their 50s and just 28% of people aged between 40 and 49 are triple jabbed at this point in time.
