ARCHIVED - Spain reduces quarantine for Covid positives to seven days
Unvaccinated close contacts will also have their isolation reduced in Spain
The Public Health Commission has announced on Wednesday afternoon, December 29 that quarantine for all people who have tested positive for Covid-19 will be reduced from ten to seven days. The decision was made “unanimously” between the Ministry of Health and the autonomous communities.
Likewise, unvaccinated individuals who have been in close contact with a person who has tested positive will also have their isolation period reduced to seven days. The rule already established that those fully vaccinated who were in close contact did not have to quarantine.
Before the meeting, several communities had requested that the quarantine be reduced to five or even three days, but the Alerts Report strongly advised against this in light of the rising number of infections in Spain.
Hours before the decision was made, the president of the Spanish government, Pedro Sanchez, explained that it "is clear that we are in a radically different situation. We are better prepared, more protected. The majority of cases are now asymptomatic; clearly there is a relationship between those without vaccination and the level of admission to the ICU with respect to those who have been vaccinated, a vast majority”.
