ARCHIVED - Spain to allow unvaccinated Brits aged between 12 and 18 to enter
Unjabbed minors can travel to Spain with vaccinated parents from Monday February 14
The summer holidays have been saved for countless British families as the Spanish government will allow the entry of unvaccinated children under the age of 18 from non-EU countries, including the UK, from Monday February 14. It may be too late to stem the tide of half-term holiday cancellations though.
Anyone over the age of 18 will need to be double jabbed, but children can now present a negative PCR test carried out 72 hours before arrival in Spain, according to the publication in Friday’s Official State Gazette (BOE).
The welcome U-turn was announced by the Ministry of the Interior after many British families were forced to cancel their mid-term holidays to Spain this month because the Spanish government still insisted that children over the age of 12 had to be fully vaccinated to enter. The order made it impossible for numerous families to comply, as most youngsters in the UK haven’t been called for their second jab yet.

The official order maintains that vaccination is “a key instrument” in combating the pandemic but due to the fact that in many countries there are difficulties in obtaining the vaccine for younger children, “it is considered appropriate to establish specific conditions for these people”.
The tourism sector in Spain, particularly on the islands, has been pushing for a relaxation of the travel restrictions for weeks.
“Every day that goes by without a resolution, competing destinations gain ground,” the vice-president of the Hotel Business Federation of Mallorca, María José Aguiló, stressed earlier this week.
In 2021, the British market share on the island was 11.5%.
The end of the vaccination requirement may come too late for families who have already cancelled their trips to Spain during the UK school holidays in February, but it will certainly open the country back up to British holidaymakers for the summer vacation season.
