ARCHIVED - Suspected Picasso worth more than 400,000 euros seized at Ibiza Airport
The passenger failed to declare the work of art when landing in Spain
A painting suspected to be a genuine Picasso worth more than 420,000 euros was seized from a passenger landing at Ibiza Airport last week. The traveller carried the work of art on a flight originating in Switzerland but failed to declare the valuable painting.
According to official sources, the passenger claimed that the painting was a fake and even provided them with a false invoice for it. Later, during further inspection, airport officers discovered what they believe to be the real receipt, for a much higher amount.
The masterpiece was seized by the Armed Institute who have sent it for verification by experts, which could take up to a month.
