ARCHIVED - Valencia Government lifts last of the Covid restrictions: only smoking on terraces remains
Social distancing and anti-Covid measures in bars, leisure and sporting venues on the Costa Blanca have been scrapped
After two years of restrictions and limitations brought about by the crippling Covid crisis, the Valencia region is finally emerging from the sixth wave and all the health indicators are moving in the desired direction.
In light of the positive evolution of the coronavirus pandemic, the President of the Valencia Government, Ximo Puig, announced on Thursday March 24 that the remaining anti-Covid measures enforced to combat the spread of the virus have finally been lifted.
Only the use of masks indoors, which only the central government can repeal, will be maintained, together with the ban on smoking on terraces which Puig has described as "a precautionary measure that should still remain in place".
But measures that were still in force, such as the requirement to keep a social distance of one-and-a-half metres indoors in restaurants and commercial premises, have been abolished regionally.
In entertainment venues, it will no longer be compulsory for drinks to be consumed whilst seated at a table, and at major sporting events, the sale of food and drink is once again permitted. At other sporting and leisure events, it is no longer necessary for consumption of food and drink to be limited to designated catering areas.

According to the President of the Generalitat, all the "significant indicators", such as the number of hospital and ICU beds occupied by Covid patients, "are tending to stabilise and fall".
Although Puig acknowledges that the recent Fallas celebrations "will bring with them an increase in the incidence", he doesn't believe that this will result in pressure on hospitals.
Nevertheless, the president has called for prudence "because there are still people in ICU and vulnerable people have to remain cautious".
The most recent data provided by the Ministry of Health on Tuesday March 22 shows that the 14-day cumulative incidence in Alicante province currently stands at 308 cases per 100,000, and the region as a whole has a rate of 266.

The health departments of Sant Joan and Marina Baixa presently have the highest circulation of the virus in the Valencia region as a whole, with more than 400 cases whilst the department of Elda is at the other end of the scale with 197 cases.
But in general, "the pandemic situation in the Valencian Community is better than in Spain as a whole", where the infection rate stands at 436, Puig stressed.
