At least 10 people drowned in Spanish waters over the weekend
Two children, aged 4 and 8, are among the tragic casualties in Spain in the last couple of days
This past weekend was marked by scorching temperatures that sent half of Spain rushing to the beach and poolside to cool down, but it was a dark few days indeed for the country as at least ten people, including two children, have died in water-related accidents.

The first fatality occurred shortly after noon on Saturday July 8 on the Salatar beach in the Girona town of Roses. A 55-year-old man was pulled unconscious from the water and died on the shore a short time later.
The second victim was a 60-year-old man who drowned around the same time on Rubina beach in Castelló d'Empúries, in Girona. The third recorded incident was that of a 32-year-old man of Indian nationality, who was bathing on Miracle beach in Tarragona.
The following day, lifeguards dragged a 65-year-old man from the surf on Estartit beach in Girona. Despite the frantic efforts of rescue workers, the victim could not be saved.
Also on Saturday, an ambulance was called to the Toledo municipality of Oropesa at 9.19pm where a 4-year-old boy was found floating unconscious in a private pool. Paramedics were unable to revive him. On Sunday afternoon, an 8-year-old child drowned in the public swimming pool at the Aguas Claras Municipal Sports Centre in rural Zaragoza.
Sadly, the tragedies stretched to the Valencian Community where three fatalities were reported at the weekend. An 89-year-old man drowned in the Castellón town of Alcossebre where another elderly man lost his life trying to save three youngsters who ran into difficulty off the Xilxes beach.
In Valencia province, a 70-year-old man drowned on Sunday in the sea on Gola del Perellonet beach.
The bleak weekend is rounded off with the death of a 75-year-old who drowned in Valladolid. The elderly man was found dead in a swimming pool located in the Las Salinas urbanization, in Medina del Campo.
