ARCHIVED - Beach tragedy as man drowns in Pilar de Horadada on the Costa Blanca
The drowning happened at Pilar de Horadada's Mil Palmeras Beach in the Vega Baja comarca of Alicante province.
A man has tragically drowned while swimming at Mil Palmeras Beach in Pilar de la Horadada on the Costa Blanca.
Other bathers spotted the unconscious man floating in the sea and pulled him out of the water at around 2pm on Sunday, June 13, according to the Emergency Information and Coordination Centre (CICU).
A SAMU ambulance was immediately called to the scene and a medical team performed advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers and other stabilisation techniques, but sadly there was no response, and they could only confirm the man's death.
No further details have been released in regard to the victim's identity, and a post mortem will be carried out to reveal the cause of the drowning.
There have now been six drownings since mid-May in the Alicante province.
Pilar de Horadada is 19km from Torrevieja and has a population of just over 21,400, of which 2,850 are British expats.
