Beer truck thief loses half the loot in epic Molina getaway fail
The thief, who has already been arrested in Murcia 26 times, lost most of the booze he’d stolen
In a bizarre incident that’s left authorities shaking their heads, a 30-year-old man with a penchant for getting caught (26 times so far, to be exact) has been arrested for stealing a truck full of beer in Molina de Segura.
But that’s not even the best part – in his haste to make a quick getaway, our hapless hero managed to lose more than a third of the merchandise in a spectacular show of bad driving.
A few days ago, a report was made to the National Police that a lorry full of booze had been stolen. Apparently, the robber waited until the delivery driver wasn’t looking, hopped up into the cab and sped away. In a stroke of misfortune, the keys had been left in the ignition.
The beer bandit fled the scene but he was soon spotted by a stunned resident, who wrote on social media on September 4 that piles of crates lay “shattered” on the footpath and in the road. He initially thought the lorry, which had Heineken and Cruz Campo labels on the side, was being driven by a professional delivery person, and couldn’t believe it was swerving all over the street, shedding beer bottles as it went.
As the van headed towards the end of Calle Mayor, near the San Roque neighbourhood, it flew through several red lights at high speed.
It was “a mind-blowing incident,” the witness said.
But our booze thief’s joyride was short-lived. The National Police quickly sprang into action, tracking down the stolen truck in Espinardo and apprehending the suspect. And when they searched the vehicle, they found that the thief had managed to lose a significant portion of the loot – mainly beer, naturally.
The suspect, a Spanish man who was bizarrely wearing a reflective vest so as not to raise suspicions, was arrested for the 27th time in his ill-fated career.
