Benidorm will transform its city centre into a completely accessible space
The work to transform Alicante’s famous city will begin after the Festes Majors Patronals in November

The historic centre of Benidorm will soon be “100% accessible” thanks to a huge undertaking of construction work by the City Council. Coinciding with the completion of the new Barceló Benidorm Beach hotel (formerly Selomar), the transformation will focus on the route between the Avenida Martínez Alejos avenue and Plaza de Canalejas square, through Calle Metge Pérez Martorell and Calle Puríssima.
Calle Pérez Llorca has already been completely renovated but the work stopped upon reaching Martínez Alejos when construction began on the hotel.

“Once they are about to conclude,” he added, “it’s our turn.”
As well as ensuring that the vibrant city centre is fully accessible, the council has committed to renovating “all underground stormwater, drinking water and sewage services, electrical wiring and the creation of the single platform at the top.”
Acting mayor of Benidorm, José Ramón González de Zárate, explained that “we have managed to get the construction company of the new hotel to collaborate with us, which will assume part of the costs of the project, which is currently being assessed by the municipal technical services. One more example of the collaboration of local administration and private initiative for the benefit of all.”

Councillors stressed their commitment to both the residents of Benidorm and its visitors by adapting the central streets so that they are accessible for all.
This “very necessary” improvement, the mayor said, is another step towards making Benidorm a “city of the future.”
