Brit arrested in Spain for selling illegal TV services
The 31-year-old was wanted in the United States for illegal proceeds totalling up to 30 million dollars
A British man has been apprehended at Alicante-Elche airport for unlawfully offering subscription TV services across three states in the USA.
The 31-year-old British national arrived from Southend Airport and was quickly arrested by officers from the Policía Nacional after his identification flagged him as a wanted individual in their database.
An International Arrest Warrant, issued by the United States in 2021, alleges his involvement in fraud and copyright violations spanning Pennsylvania, New Jersey and California from March 2016 to November 2019.
Operating several unauthorised computer servers, he reportedly amassed over 30 million dollars in bank transfers by providing illicit access to TV channels for subscribers. Additionally, he stands accused of using transferred funds to access internet cloud services to advance his pirate operations.
The suspect has been handed over to the National Court in Madrid, responsible for extradition proceedings to the US. If convicted there, he faces a potential sentence of up to 20 years behind bars.
