Brit jailed for stabbing rival in Mallorca love triangle feud
The 29-year-old Briton has been sentenced to three years behind bars in Spain
Danielli Ngandu's world was turned upside down when he was caught in bed with his girlfriend by her other lover, Aly Mbengue, in the popular holiday resort of Santa Ponsa near Magaluf.
The unexpected encounter sparked a violent confrontation that left Mbengue, 33, fighting for his life.
According to reports, Ngandu punched Mbengue in the face before pulling out a seven-inch knife and stabbing him in the chest. The attack was so intense that it penetrated Mbengue's abdominal cavity, leaving him with multiple scars and a long road to recovery.
Prosecutors initially sought a nine-year sentence for Ngandu, but a plea deal reduced his time behind bars. Ngandu pleaded guilty to attempted homicide and was formally sentenced to three years in jail at the Audiencia Nacional court in Palma last week.
As part of his sentence, Ngandu was also ordered to pay £25,000 in damages to his victim and will be subject to a five-year restraining order, prohibiting him from coming within 500m of Mbengue.
The Brit has already spent 14 months in jail, which will be deducted from his sentence. He is expected to be deported back to the UK in the summer of 2025, after serving two-thirds of his time in Spain.
In their pre-trial indictment, public prosecutors said: “The injuries caused placed the victim’s life in grave danger and he would have died if he hadn’t been admitted to a hospital intensive care unit so quickly.”
Incredibly, it has emerged that lawyer for the 29-year-old accused, Irene Hernandez, had planned to use a ‘self-defence’ argument had the case gone to trial. According to reports, Hernandez would have claimed that Mbengue was the initial aggressor, sparking the violent confrontation. However, the plea deal rendered this argument moot.
