British child, 9, dies suddenly on the way home from holiday in Spain
The youngster fell ill and tragically died shortly after enjoying a holiday in Tenerife with his family
The community is in shock after the sudden and unexpected passing of 9-year-old Freddie Pritchard, a young boy from Wrexham in Wales. Freddie was on his way back from a family holiday in Tenerife when tragedy struck, leaving his family and loved ones reeling.
Freddie's mother, Cerys Pritchard, 34, described the devastating moment she lost her son.
"It was a huge shock. To be travelling home after a holiday and never get him home is the worst feeling in the world."
She added, "My beautiful baby Freddie has gained his angel wings. It's been completely unexpected and a huge shock not just to us but to our family and all Freddie's friends."
Freddie's aunt, Jessica Tomlinson, remembered the young boy as "the biggest character I'll ever meet" and said, "Nothing will be the same without him. Freddie was the kindest little boy and had so many friends."
She also shared that Freddie had recently learned to swim on his holiday and was proud of himself, and even taught his mother how to swim too.
Freddie was a passionate football fan and played for Gresford Athletic Junior Under 10s team since he was six years old.
The cause of Freddie's death is still unknown, and the family is waiting for answers.
"What happened was very, very unexpected. He did not fall ill or anything like that. We have no answers and we still have no idea what happened,” Ms Tomlinson said.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help support the family with funeral expenses, and more than 10,000 euros has been raised so far. The remaining donations will go to the Cheshire Ambulance Service, the Countess of Chester Hospital and the Alder Hey Snowdrop suite.
The family plans to pay tribute to Freddie by planting a tree in his honour and building a ‘friends bench’ at his school, All Saints School. The school's headteacher, Richard Hatwood, described Freddie as "a happy, polite, courteous student and a friend to everyone."
