British tourist, 45, arrested in Spain for raping a friend of his son
The alleged rapist was caught trying to flee Spain hours after the attack
A 45-year-old British man has been arrested at Palma de Mallorca airport after supposedly raping his son’s female friend at their hotel in Magaluf. The 20-year-old victim, also believed to be from the UK, claims the man entered her hotel room through an adjoining door and attacked her in the middle of the night while his son was out partying.
The unnamed tourist was nabbed at the airport boarding gate hours after the attack and Spanish police believe he was trying to flee the country to avoid arrest. Officers set out to track down the Briton when the girl escaped from her hotel room and ran to a nearby police station in Punta Ballena.
According to island police, the alleged rapist checked out of the hotel and booked a new flight back to the UK several days before his holiday was scheduled to end. He has been remanded in custody but has not yet been charged with any crime.
Back in March, police in Magaluf arrested two Columbian men, aged 19 and 24, for the alleged robbery and sexual assault of a 25-year-old British woman. The tourist was reportedly targeted by the men in the early hours of March 3 near a bank close to the infamous party strip of Punta Ballena.
Investigating officers were told the attackers ripped the young woman’s dress and underwear before stealing her watch, which was worth several thousand euros. One police officer was injured when the pair resisted arrest.
And in April, another British tourist had part of his ear sliced off during a barroom brawl with another UK holidaymaker at a hotel in the Mallorca coastal resort of Cala d’Or.
