British tourist dies on Jet2 flight from Spain
The passenger fell ill just as the plane was about to take off from northern Spain
A 61-year-old British man has died aboard a Jet2 plane that was preparing to take off from Spain’s Reus Airport for the East Midlands on Friday October 6. According to local reports, the tourist fell ill as the flight was waiting for its turn to depart from the Costa Dorada, close to Barcelona.
The pilot delayed take-off and a team of medics was called to the plane to treat the UK national, who had lost consciousness by that time. But despite the best efforts of the emergency services, he was pronounced dead on board.
The plane was originally scheduled to set off for the UK shortly after 11am but it was ultimately delayed by around seven hours.
Spanish police have yet to comment on the cause of death although it’s understood that a postmortem has already been carried out, but some reports suggest that the man may have suffered a heart attack.
Back on September 21, passengers aboard a BA flight from Heathrow to France were shocked to discover that an elderly woman they thought was sleeping had actually died in her seat. It was only after the plane had landed and the travellers started to disembark that the crew realised something was wrong with the 73-year-old.
Paramedics rushed onto the plane but were sadly unable to revive the woman, who is believed to have had a heart attack.
