British tourist robbed and raped on Spanish beach
The young woman has flown home from Spain following the horror attack
Playa de Palma
A 30-year-old British holidaymaker was reportedly gang raped by two individuals on a beach in Palma de Mallorca in the early hours of Thursday August 1. The young tourist told police that she had initially agreed to go to the beach with one of her attackers and had consented to having sex with him.
However, things quickly took an “unexpected turn”, according to an official report, when a second man appeared. The victim claims that she was raped by both men before they robbed her of all her belongings and fled.
After filing a complaint with Mallorca police, the traumatised woman was taken to Son Espases Hospital in Palma where she underwent a routine medical examination. It’s understood that she flew back to the UK shortly afterwards.
While very little is known yet about the woman’s attackers, she is said to have been “visibly affected” by the attack and “in a state of shock” when she arrived at the local police station.
Balearic Island police have acknowledged the issue of thieves and criminals targeting vulnerable holidaymakers, especially in tourist resorts such as parts of Playa de Palma.
Head of National Police for the area, Francisco Javier Santos, has attempted to reassure tourists that despite the recent incidents, the island is still a safe place for holidaymakers.
He said to local media: “The level of criminality is relatively limited.”
